Why children’s foot care is important
A child’s feet are constantly developing. During the first years of life, the position of the feet and legs changes frequently. Many posture and movement issues disappear on their own, but not all of them. When an abnormal foot position or walking pattern persists, it can affect posture, movement, and even the development of joints and muscles. Early detection and treatment can prevent problems later in life.
Common foot problems in children
Abnormal foot position
A collapsed arch, X- or O-shaped legs, or feet that point inward or outward are common in children. Often this is temporary and part of normal development. However, if the position does not improve as your child grows, or if walking becomes painful, it’s time for an assessment.
Toe abnormalities
The position of the toes can also deviate; for example, overlapping toes, crooked growth, or claw toes. These can cause pain or make it difficult to wear shoes comfortably.
Pain during movement or sports
Frequent pain in the feet, knees, or ankles while playing or doing sports is an important signal. It can result from poor foot or leg alignment, overuse, or an incorrect walking pattern.
Nail or skin problems
Children may also experience ingrown toenails, warts, calluses, or corns. These can be painful and affect the way they walk.
Foot Shape and Alignment Issues
Get a tailored solution to relieve pain and discomfort caused by flat feet, high arches, tilted feet, or congenital conditions.
TOE MISALIGNMENT
Podotherapie Eindhoven can help with issues caused by hammer toes, claw toes, or a misaligned big toe.
WORK OR SPORTS-RELATED INJURIES
Inactivity can aggravate work- and sports-related injuries. Treatments at Podotherapie Eindhoven help you stay active by focusing on possibilities rather than limitations.
TOENAIL ISSUES
Podotherapie Eindhoven provides treatment for various toenail issues, including ingrown toenails, nail inflammation, and fungal infections.
HEEL SPURS
Do you feel sharp heel pain when you take your first steps in the morning? This could be an indication of heel spurs, which are painful bone growths on the underside of the heel bone, often caused by prolonged stress and tension on the foot.
Morton’s Neuroma
A compressed nerve can cause burning pain in the forefoot and toes. Narrow shoes and high heels are common causes of Morton’s neuroma. I offer advice on footwear and make custom insoles to alleviate the problem.
Skin Problems
If painful calluses, warts, or corns keep recurring after a pedicure, consider seeking advice from a podiatrist. Podotherapie Eindhoven identifies the root cause of these issues and provides lasting solutions.
Achilles Tendon Issues
Improper workout techniques, excess weight, and foot or ankle misalignments can strain the Achilles tendon. As a trained sports podiatrist, I offer advice and care for Achilles tendon issues.
What I do as a podiatrist for your child
As a podiatrist, I am specialized in diagnosing and treating foot problems. I always start with a thorough examination. I assess the position of the feet and legs, analyze the walking pattern using digital equipment, and discuss any pain symptoms. Based on my findings, I create a personal treatment plan, which may include:
- Advice on footwear or walking pattern
- Exercises to improve posture or stability
- Custom podiatric 3D insoles
- Referral to a pediatric physiotherapist (if needed)
When to see a podiatrist
Are you unsure whether your child’s foot position is normal, or are you worried about how they walk or move? Please contact me. If your child often trips, complains of leg or foot pain, or has difficulty participating in sports, it’s wise to schedule a consultation.
Reimbursement
Podiatry treatment is often (partially) covered by supplementary health insurance. You don’t need a referral from your GP. You can check your insurance coverage on www.podotherapie-eindhoven.nl
